Legal days and other days of interest in November –
• 11/5 – Election Day;
• 11/10 – U.S. Marine Corps stablished in 1775;
• 11/11 – Signing of WWI Armistice in 1918 and VETERANS DAY (Fly your flag.);
• 11/21 – Granada Campaign ended in 1983;
• 11/28 – THANKSGIVING DAY (Fly your fly.) I see that a state holiday will be observed the day after Thanksgiving on 11/29.
After the devastation of Hurricane Helene throughout our country, and Hurricane Milton in Florida, all I can say about what happened at my house was mere inconvenience.
I was without power for about four days. My grandsons hooked a generator to my two freezers, and sideby- side fridge and brought me a battery-operated fan.
My landline didn’t work because the power was off, the cell phone quit working, so the grandsons also bought me a walkie talkie so my daughter and I could communicate.
After power was res tored, my two freezers were fine, but my 32-year-old side-by-side died, so I had to dump everything in it. I had to purchase another one.
My water pump wouldn’t work, and my hot water heater wouldn’t work, so they had to be repaired. However, they are antiques like my side-byside, and like I am.
Now that this is over, I can say how blessed I was.
Blessed to have the help I needed and blessed to have so little damage. There is no way of knowing yet how many lives were lost.
So many people lost everything. I, like a lot of them, got out with only the clothes they were wearing.
As we enter the Thanksgiving season, let us remember those less fortunate and share what we can. As trucks are being loaded to take necessary goods to the survivors, look around your house and see if you have blankets you are not using, or coats and jackets, just anything you can add to relieve the suffering. It’s already cold in a lot of these places.
By the time most of you are reading this, election day will be already over. I pray I will have the president I voted for.
I feel like I did a lot of campaigning on Facebook.
I am looking forward to Thanksgiving Day with family and friends. As usual, I am expecting to be over at the Wilson Cook House.
