Renovations to the baseball/softball fields at Pierce County High School should be completed soon.
Facilities director Harbin Farr said that parking lot paving and installation of sod are currently underway.
The projects are the final phase of the stadium/athletic facilities renovations that got underway more than a year ago.
School superintendent Dara Bennett said an open house for the facility is planned for 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29.
The renovations to the baseball/softball area have included closing in the batting cages to provide softball and baseball locker rooms and the construction of additional bathrooms and storage for uniforms and equipment. The existing baseball concession stand will get a face lift and additional windows for viewing the new softball field.
The softball field has been moved to realign with the baseball fields.
The costs of these projects will be covered by a combination of education special purpose local option sales tax (ESPLOST) and cash reserves from the school system’s general fund. The general fund monies have been freed up by assistance the system received as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act/American Rescue Plan (ARP) recently approved by Congress.
In another construction related item, Farr reported work is underway on the new ag complex at the high school.
