JESUP — Brantley County’s cross-country teams competed here Thursday afternoon at the Wayne County meet.
The Lady Herons finished fourth in the eight-team girls’ event held October 24 while the Herons placed 10th in the 11team boys’ meet.
BCHS will run Saturday, November 2 in Lyons at Toombs County High School in the sectional meet for Region 1, 2, 3 and 4.
In the girls’ meet, South Effingham dominated the field placing all five runners in the top five spots to finish with 15 points. The Lady Mustangs were followed by Coffee (72), Long County (114), Brantley County (126), host Wayne County (133), Bradwell Institute (140), Appling County (155) and Atkinson County (174).
Tiny Atkinson County easily won the boys’ event with 53 points. The Rebels were followed by South Effingham (90), Wayne County (102), Tattnall County (109), Coffee (131), Long County (137), Bradwell Institute (150), Pierce County (184), Appling County (201), Brantley County (224) and McIntosh County Academy (309).
The Lady Herons were lead by the top 10 finishes of Avery Crews (8th, 23:04.76) Klara Barnes (9th, season-best 23:16.38) in the field of 62 runners. The winning time posted was 20:50.97.
Following the duo were Linzi Parker (33rd, season-best 2720.79), Delaney Lloyd (38th, 28:41.71), Mariah Wittrien (51st, 31:31.97) and Kaycee Johnson (60th, 35:18.59).
Hayze Evans notched a Top 10 showing finishing ninth in the field of 79 runners with a season-best time of 18:35.45. The winning time was 17:28.69.
Trailing Evans were Max Herrin (32nd; 20:09.88), Evinrude Green (57th, 22:11.97), Steven Roberson (67th, 24:24.69), Carter Lentz (68th, 24:36.80), Garrett Myers (77th, season-best 29:00.37) and Riley Crews (78th, season-best 32:40.51).
