Brantley volleyball falls in Rd. 2 of tournament

Brantley County’s historic 2024 volleyball season came to an end Saturday in the second round of the Class A state tournament in the north Georgia hills.

The Lady Herons (1519), who set a record for most wins in a season to earn their first-ever postseason bid in Year 3 as a 25th seed, followed with their first-ever state tournament victory at eighthseed Brooks County Wednesday, October 16 before bowing out Saturday, October 19 at fifthranked ninth-seed Fannin County.

BCHS rallied from a 2-1 deficit to knock off the Lady Trojans in Quitman. The Lady Herons advanced to the second round with a 19-25, 26-24, 19-25, 25-21, 15-6 victory in the best-of-5 matchup.

Brantley County was one of three schools in the 32-team bracket to knock off higher seeds on the road in the opening round. Rabun County, the 29th seed, ousted ninth-ranked fourth-seed Lamar County 3-2 with 19th-seed Banks County slipping past 10thranked 14th-seed Chatooga by a 3-2 count.

The Lady Herons traveled to Blue Ridge to face Fannin County, which prevailed 25-6, 25-11, 25-7 for the three-set sweep. Both Rabun County and Banks County also fell 3-0 in their second round pairings.
