UNDATED — Mr. Roger Dale Strickland, Sr., passed away October 3, 2024 at HCA Fla. Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla.
Strickland was born July 9, 1948 in Hickox to the late Leatha Strickland Johnson and W.R. “Buddy” Steedley, Sr.
He is survived by his son, Roger “Dale” Strickland, Jr.; sister, Sue Soles (Billy) and brother, Donnie Crews (Willie); and many nieces and nephews who loved him deeply.
Strickland was preceded in death by his loving wife of 48 years, Faye Snipes Strickland; son, Timothy Douglas Strickland; and brother, Jackie Walker.
Strickland graduated from Fernandina Beach High School in 1966. He received a scholarship for basketball and attended Lake City Jr. College.
He was employed by Anheuser-Busch in Jacksonville, Fla., and retired after 30 years of employment.
Strickland never met a stranger and loved talking to people. He will always be remembered for his big laugh and big heart. His love for his family never wavered.
see OBITS, Page 5 Due to an inherited kidney disease, Strickland cared for his wife and sons and never complained. He gave his sons the best childhood and it continued into adulthood.
Strickland loved to go fishing with his best friend and son, Dale. They enjoyed many days fishing together until his health began to fail him. He will surely be missed by all that knew and loved him.
A funeral service was held Monday, October 7, 2024 in the Woods-Wainwright Chapel of Coastal Camden Funeral Home with Pastor James Roberson presiding.
Interment followed at Colesburg Cemetery in Woodbine, Ga.
Coastal Camden Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
