Last week, former President Jimmy Carter turned 100 years old. He is the first United States president to reach that age.
I had the honor of one of my good friends and Mr. Carter’s good friends (Dink NeSmith) of taking him a few of my Satilla River pictures several years ago.
Mr. Carter sent me a handwritten note thanking me for the pictures. When Dink and I did our “Kase For the Environment” kids’ book, he also endorsed it by writing a note for the back of the book.
Mr. Carter talked about how he remembered going to the Satilla when he was a small boy and how important it was to keep it clean and beautiful.
I included a copy of the note from him in my “Satilla Solitude” book, along with pictures of him and Mrs. Carter looking at my book.
