Terry Wannis Cleland, Sr.

NAHUNTA – Terry Wannis Cleland, Sr., 66 of Nahunta, passed away Tuesday evening, September 17, 2024 at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross after a brief illness.

Born in Waycross, his Cleland’s were Wannis Cleland and Jean Carroll Sowell Strickland. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, Tony Cleland and Timothy Homer Cleland; several uncles; and a niece, Jeanie Marie Crews.

Terry was a painter for Ben Lang and a member of Riverside Chapel Baptist Church. He loved hunting, fishing, watching NASCAR and football.

Survivors include his wife, Gail Cleland of Nahunta; a son, Terry Wannis Cleland, Jr. of Nahunta; two daughters and a son-in-law, Reba Diane Cleland (Eddie) of Valdosta and Chelsea Nicole Cleland of Savannah; a stepson, John Harper of Virginia; a stepdaughter, Rebecca Gail Dawson of Waynesville; three grandchildren, Julius Lassiter, Alexis Lassiter and Kitana Stewart; two brothers and a sistersin- law, Travis Cleland (Rose) of Hoboken and Jesse Strickland (Melanie) of Waynesville; a sister and brother-in-law, Tammy Crews (Stacy) of Nahunta; and also several other relatives and a host of friends.

A funeral service was held Saturday afternoon, September 21, 2024 at the chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Wainright officiating.

Burial followed in Bethlehem Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jay Mathis, Timmy Davis, Tony Rhoden, Mike Harris, Tommy Cleland and Jamie Cleland.

Arrangements were with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
