HORTENSE — A 59year-old female suffered injuries while allegedly being attacked by a “pack” of dogs on Armadillo Run in the Hortense area.

Elizabeth Mayer, who lives on Armadillo Run, was walking back to her residence from her mother’s next door residence when the incident took place at approximately 5:30 p.m., Monday, September 9, according to the report of Brantley County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Richard Troup.

The deputy arrived on scene and found the victim with severe injuries to both of her legs and arms laying on the ground between the two homes. She was being attended to by her elderly mother, sister and a family across the street.

The victim’s mother and sister informed the deputy Ms. Mayer “was walking back to her own house when she was attacked by a pack of dogs that roam the neighborhood.”

The sister found her being mauled and ran the “dog pack” of about 12 off, according to Dep. Troup’s report.

Troup talked with residents in the area and was told of several dogs roaming. The couple who helped Ms. Mayer’s mother and sister after the attack, said the “pack” had attacked and killed their pet dog a couple of weeks back.

Dep. Troup observed a brown and white male dog with blood stains on its neck and shoulders and few other dogs adolescentsized barking and hanging around in the area after the attack.

Jacob Moore assisted the deputy in capturing the brown and white dog luring him to some dog food. Moore grabbed the reportedly instigator and placed it into a BCSO dog box. It was taken to Sheriff Len Davis’s dog kennel, along with another dog.

The sheriff made contact with the Brantley County Health Department and other authorities who oversee dog matters.
