Matthew Joseph Dean

WAYCROSS – Matthew Joseph Dean, 31 of Waycross, died Friday afternoon, September 13, 2024 at his residence after a sudden illness.

Dean was born in Waycross to the late Joseph Adam Dean and Dawn Stevens Dean and made Brantley County his home all his life. He was a 2011 graduate of Brantley County High School where he was a member of the wrestling and football teams for the Herons.

He enjoyed listening to music and playing video games. Dean was a member of First Baptist Church, Waycross.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Wayne and Gwendloyn Stevens; and an uncle, John William Dean IV.

Dean is survived by his mother, Dawn Stevens Dean (fiancée David Jackson) of Waycross; his sister, Elizabeth Rigdon (husband Richard) of Pierce County; three nieces and nephews, Madelynn Rigdon, Carter Rigdon and Colton Rigdon; his paternal grandfather, Bill Dean; paternal grandmother, Joyce Dean; aunt, Dana Chancey and husband, Ricky, of Tifton; numerous cousins and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 2 p.m., in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 1 p.m.
