Sylvester Jackson

JESUP — Sylvester Jackson, 73, a native of Hortense and resident of Jesup, passed away Monday, September 9, 2024 at his residence following a lengthy illness.

Jackson was born on September 6, 1951 to the late Pink Jackson and Hester Jacobs-Jackson in Brantl e y County. He was educated at Wayne County Training School in Jesup.

Jackson was a member of Greater St. James Temple of the Apostolic Faith, Inc., under the leadership of Pastor Havannah Green. He was a former employee and retiree of the City of Jesup after 38 years of service.

In his free time, Jackson enjoyed sports, hunting and spending time with his family. Many were unaware he was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War.

Jackson was preceded in death by both of his parents, Pink Jackson and Hester Jacobs-Jackson; a son, Derrick Jackson; a daughter, Yolanda Dismuke; a sister, Nancy Reddish; and a brother, Henry Jackson.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 26 years, Julia Ann Johnson- Jackson of Jesup; a son, Edmond Jackson of Folkston; two daughters, Tonya (Kevin) Barnes of Lousiana and Jullisa Jones of South Carolina; his sisters-in-law, Wanda (Travis) Wilson of Opelika, Ala.; his brothers-inlaw, Lamar (Aina) Hardy of Jesup, Donald Hardy of Dublin, Mike Hardy, Jr. of Macon, and Robert E. Copeland of Jesup; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a close friend, Harry Bennett of Jesup; and a host of other family members and friends who will miss his loving smile.

A graveside service was held Friday, September 13 at Jesup City Cemetery.

Royal Funeral Home of Jesup was in charge of arrangements.
