Veterans to be honored Nov. 11

A Veterans Day ceremony will be held Friday, Nov. 11 at the Blackshear City Park.

Better Hometown Blackshear will host this year’s ceremony, which will begin at 11 a.m.

The Rev. Morris Pate, Pastor of the Fourth Mount Olive Church, will be the guest speaker.

The Rev. Pate is a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He holds an associate’s degree from Waycross College (now South Georgia State College) and a bachelor’s degree from Albany State University.

He and his wife of 39 years, Denise, have two sons and two daughters-in-law, Alex and Shyrita and Reggie and Krystal, and two grandchildren, Christopher, 11 and Alexia, 6.

“We invite all veterans, active military and their families to join us as we recognize their brave service to our nation,” said Bethany Strickland, Better Hometown Blackshear Manager.

A community lunch compliments of Piggly Wiggly and the City of Blackshear will be held following the ceremony.
