Edgar Allen Land, Jr.

WAYNESVILLE – Edgar Allen Land, Jr., 97 of Waynesville, formerly of Albany, died Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Woodmont Senior Living in Tallahassee, Fla.

Land was born in Early County, Ga. He moved to Albany in 1954 and to Waynesville in 2001. While in Albany, Land was a member of Raleigh White Baptist Church.

He was employed as a mechanic at Bells Oldsmobile, then worked with J. C. Penny Automotive. He opened and ran his own automotive repair shop or several years.

Land retired from Purolator. After his first retirement, he was employed by the City of Albany as a mechanic working on the police cars. He also retired from the City of Albany.

Land was one of the city’s mechanics responsible for getting their vehicles back in operation after the flood in 1994. He enjoyed gardening and taking care of his roses.

Land enjoyed going to the Woodbine Opera every Saturday for dancing.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Ruth Story Land from the Fairfax, Ala., and his sister, Mabel Berry.

Land is survived by five children, Becky Land Poll of Miramar, Fla., Cathy Land Andrews (David) of Tallahassee, Fla., Cindy Land Finn (Robert) of Flower Mound, Tx., Edgar Allen Land III (Suzanne) of Albany, Ga., Sandy Land of Lighthouse Point, Fla.; sox grandchildren, Charly Andrews, Lesley Andrews, Sarah Dickerson, Shelby Dickerson, Braden Land (Brittnie) and Bailee Land Chick (Aaron); 10 great grandchildren, Kai, Kingston, Aymin, Anya, Aaliyah, William, Jeremiah, Cora, Collin and Ira; a sister, Eleanor Land Campbell of Albany; numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 3 p.m., at Kimbrell- Stern with interment to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.
