Pierce County Middle School (PCMS) Basketball opened the season with a bang, with Girls and Boys teams scoring wins across the board.
Monday (Oct. 31) the sixth & seventh grade Lady Bears Basketball team beat the Brantley County Herons 22-21 in an intense exciting game.
Caren Drew led the Lady Bears with nine points followed by Harper Larson scoring six points late in the fourth quarter.
Madi McGatha helped the Lady Bears with five points and Jesslyn Moore with two points.
Wednesday (Nov. 2) the team beat Bethune (Charlton) 33-9.
The Lady Bears defense held Bethune to zero points in the first half, while only allowing nine points in the second half.
The Lady Bears top scorers were Caren Drew with 13 points, Madi McGatha with 11 points, Jose’ziah James with five points, and Harper Larson with four points.
The Lady Bears play again today (Nov. 9) at home against Ware County.
PCMS sixth/seventh grade boys basketball team defeated Brantley 43-19 in the season opener (Oct. 31).
The Bears earned 30 points in the first half.
“The team was very aggressive and worked together” said Boys Coach Maureen Brown.
“We ran three teams, giving every player an opportunity to play, and play they did. I was very pleased with our performance.”
The Bears were be back in action against Bethune last Wednesday (Nov. 2), winning 52-22.
The Leading scorer was Jack McClellan with 14 points, Noah Delaney with 12 points, Dylan Johnson with eight points, Kendric Benton with seven points, Gihad Taylor with four points, Beck Hodges and David Herring with three pts.and Bennett Puryear with one point.
“The team played a very aggressive pressure diamond press and man-to-man defense. We ran our press and fastbreak well,” said Coach Brown.
“The entire team is to be commended.”
