City of Hoboken sets millage using rollback

HOBOKEN — City of Hoboken officials set its millage rate for FY25, flooring for City Hall and announced dates for Trick or Treat and the Christmas Parade during its September monthly meeting.

City council members approved the rollback millage rate of 5.083, down from the 5.10 rate announced last year during the Tuesday, September 3 meeting.

City councilman Jimmy Ray made the motion to adopt the resolution for approval of the FY25 city budget with Mayor Pro-tem Robin Helmuth giving the second. The motion unaimously passed.

Councilwoman “Skeeter” Stone made the motion to adopt a resolution setting the final middle rate for 2024. Councilman Kenny Jordan seconded the motion, which passed 5-0. Councilman Ray was not in attendance when the vote was called for.

Helmuth said she was having trouble getting flooring companies to come to City Hall to look at replacing the carpet in the building.

Officials, who received two bids in June and were looking for at least one more bid, are wanting laminate flooring installed. Chris Crews bid $9,034 with Ashley’s Flooring submitting a bid of $11,600.

Councilmembers decided to go ahead with the bids received. Councilwoman Stone made the motion to go with the Crews’ bid, which was seconded by Helmuth. The motion passed 5-0.

The council, on the recommendation of Mayor Joey Crews, approved Trick or Treat to be held Thursday, October 31 from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Councilwoman Amy Lee made the motion with Stone giving the second, which ended with a 6-0 vote.

Council members also approved the Christmas Parade date for Saturday, December 14. Helmuth made the motion with Lee giving the second. It passed 6-0.

The mayor said the Christmas Parade committee will begin work on this year’s theme and start taking solicitations for the Grand Marshall.

Councilman Jordan said a local business (Screamz Haunted Experience) would like to make a donation to the Christmas festival. Jordan did not have a figure as to how much may be donated.
