County adopts FY25 budget, millage

Brantley County commissioners adopted resolutions concerning the nearly $17 million FY25 budget Thursday.

Commissioners approved a motion for both the General Fund Revenue budget as well as the General Fund Expenditures Budget as well as discussed setting the proposed millage rate during the September 5 meeting.

Another motion was approved to set the proposed county-wide gross millage in the unincorporated area at 20.1297 mills. The millage rate for incorporated is 16.3971.

The Commissioners also adopted resolutions for the following budgets:

Recreation Advisory Fund: $100,000.00

DFACS Maintenance Fund: $7,050.00

Date Fund: $6,250.00

Jail Fund: $18,500.00

2019/2024 SPLOST (Special Local Option Sales Tax) Fund: $1,773,735.00

2025/2030 SPLOST Fund: $1,111,846.12 TSPLOST (Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) Fund: $928,000.00

Capital Projects Fund: $64,800.00

E911 Fund: $26,927.45 A motion was also adopted for a resolution for approving budgets for the Volunteer Fire Departments in setting the proposed millage in each special tax district at 1.25 mills:

Calvary Fire Department: $70,500.00

Waynesville Fire Department: $129,000.00 The county-wide fire districts include Hortense, Nahunta (incorporated and unincorporated) and Hoboken.

Hortense Fire Department: $87,000.00

Nahunta Volunteer Fire Department (unincorporated): $366,458.23

Hoboken Fire Department: $79,537.34 Public safety user fees and setting the garbage collection fee were also discussed.

A motion was set to the public safety user fee which will be calculated so every parcel in the incorporated and unincorporated areas of the county, excluding cemeteries, shall receive a fee of $34.24 plus a $94.44 fee for every residential structure, commercial structure, mobile home or other mobile home device or structure being used as a residence zone.

All unincorporated parcels 25 acres or more with no improvements, such as residential mobile homes and commercial structures, will be assessed at the additional fee of $94.44.

As for the garbage collection fees, a motion set the 2025 garbage collection fee at $16.10 per month with the annual payment being $193.10.
