NAHUNTA — Several concerned citizens discussed road/ditch issues around the county with Brantley County commissioners.
Dee Kirkland talked about her property receiving an enormous amount of trash. Kirkland said there is a drainage ditch which runs through her property on County Line Road.
According to Kirkland, the ditch is 1,269 feet long and has a 36-inch culvert at the west end of the ditch on her property from County Line Road to Freddie Hickox’s property. She said it then extends to the Carter property then to hers.
Kirkland said water is coming from County Line Road, which is at the east end of her property. Kirkland added she also observed a 20-inch culvert at the east end of Hickox’s property.
“It just backs up over that culvert,” Kirkland said. “It’s backing up on my property and brings all the trash off the County Line Road.”
She also said in that ditch is a 35-foot wide ditch approximately 10-15 feet deep. Kirkland also said the ditch easement is in there.
Kirkland said she has been trying for the last two and a half years to get a culvert so the drainage will come out of her property instead of backing up.
Charles Hutcherson spoke to commissioners about his concerns on Ratcliffe and Swafford Roads.
He requested the commissioners review his ditches and make sure they are not shedding water from the road onto his property.
Hutcherson also said he had a trash issue in getting trash picked up. County Manager Joey Cason gave Hutcherson his email address to let him know if he has those problems again.
Lorraine Morgan voiced concerns about the rock beiung placed on her road and the drainage ditch According to Cason, the rock has been covered with dirt to make the road more passable and the ditch will be pulled.
The Exchange Club’s Brenda Johns asked the commission about being given two miles for the for “Adopt a Mile” cleanup on Baker Creek Road.
The Exchange Club will be picking up litter.
