NAHUNTA – Dorothy Jean Moore Watson Morton, 80 of Nahunta, passed away Monday evening, August 26, 2024, after an extended illness.
Born in Black Jack, N.C., Mrs. Morton’s parents were Jamie Dalton Moore, Sr. and Annie Alberta Boyd Moore. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Freddie Watson, Jr.; her baby daughter, Rohdonda Gwen Watson Langford; a sister, Mildred Briley; and two brothers, Jasper Moore and J.D. Moore.
Mrs. Morton moved from Robersonville, N.C. to Camden County in 1970 where she lived for 48 years before moving August 13, 2018 to Nahunta. She was a homemaker, but most knew her from working at Steffens Restaurant in Kingsland.
Mrs. Morton was a member of Waynesville Missionary Baptist Church. She loved swans, the color sky blue, playing cards with her daughters and Freddie, and sitting on her front porch watching the hummingbirds while talking with family and friends.
Mrs. Morton was ALWAYS a very loving and caring wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother who was always willing to help any and everyone she could. She helped raise two of her grandchildren, Tyler and Jennifer, after their mother, Rohdonda, passed away after a car accident. She also helped take care of her nephew and niece, Chip and Melissa Gooding, after their mother passed away.
Mrs. Morton always loved her girls more than anything and was always there for them no matter what.
Survivors include four daughters and sons-inlaw, Evelyn Jean Hickox (Rusty) of Waynesville, Sherry Sutherland (Randy) of Yulee, Fla, Donna Kay Pierce (Doodle) of Folkston and Bonnie Knox (Joe) of Nahunta; six grandsons, Tracy Beard, Jr. (Sarah), Brian Curry (Kelsey), Derek Beard (Stephanie), Devin Curry (Katie), Chris Eakes (Caitlin) and Tyler Langford (Jessica); six granddaughters, Brandy Brian (Johnny), Stephanie (Jason), Jenny, Holly Bell (Schuyler), Amber Kay McInarnay (Hoyle) and Jennifer Elliott (Derek); several great grandchildren; one special son, Coleman Groover; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Betty Lou Griffin of Hamilton, N.C., and Grace Dukes (Buddy) of Ludowici; a brother-in-law, James Briley of North Carolina; her dear friend, Donald Knox; and also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
A funeral service was held Friday morning, August 30, 2024 at the chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Wainright and Rev. Ricky Knox officiating.
Burial followed in Lawnwood Cemetery in Kingsland.
Pallbearers were her grandsons, Tracy Beard, Brian Curry, Derek Beard, Devin Curry, Chris Eakes and Tyler Langford.
Arrangements were with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
