NAHUNTA – Alton Leverne Morgan, 80 of Nahunta, passed away Monday afternoon, August 26, 2024 at Hospice of the Golden Isles after an extended illness.

Born in Raybon, Morgan’s parents were Waldo Emerson Morgan and Gladys Smith Morgan. He is also preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Walter.

Morgan graduated Nahunta High School with the Class of 1962 and retired from the United States Postal Service as a Postmaster. He also retired from OREMC as a dispatcher. Morgan loved his grandbabies and enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Bulldogs.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Morgan of Nahunta; two sons and daughters-in-law, Matt Morgan (Scooter) of Raybon and Mike Hendrix (Melissa) of Hickox; a daughter and son-in-law, Erika Hendrix Turlington (Paul) of Hickox; six grandchildren, Seth Hendrix (Katie), Trevor Hendrix, Zach Gibson (Kailey), Taylor Morgan (Marissa), Brooke Morgan and Kaden Hendrix; five great grandchildren, Hudson Hendrix, Kellen Hendrix, Coleman Morgan, Amelia Hendrix and Reid Morgan; a sister, Trellis Crews of Kingsland; and also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

A funeral service was held Thursday morning, August 29, 2024 at the chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Bishop Raymond Willis officiating.

Burial followed in Smyrna Cemetery.

Pallbearers were his grandsons Seth Hendrix, Trevor Hendrix, Zach Gibson, Taylor Morgan, Kaden Hendrix and family friend, Dalton Moore. Honorary pallbearers were Brooke Morgan, Jerry Johnson, Sherri Smith and Sammy Smith.

Arrangements were with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
