Dorothy’s Desk

Legal days and other days of interest in September:

9/8 – Grandparents Day; 9/10 – U. S Naval Sea Cadet Corps Incorporated in 1962;

9/11 – PATRIOTS DAY AND NATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE AND REMEMBRANCE (FLY YOUR FLAG AT HALF-MAST UNTIL SUNSET);

9/14 – “Star Spangled Banner” written by Francis Scott Key in 1814 and Ladies Auxiliary V.F. W. organized in 1914;

9/17- U.S. Constitution approved in 1787 and CONSTITITION AND CITIZENSHIP DAY (Fly your flag);

9/18 – U.S. Air Force established in 1947;

9/20 – POW/MIA RECOGNITION DAY (Fly your flag.) 9/29 – V.F.W. DAY, V.F.W. established in 1899 and GOLD STAR MOTHER’S DAY.

Labor Day came into being by the labor movement and was signed into law by Pres. Grover Cleveland in 1894, becoming a federal holiday. It symbolizes the end of summer for many Americans and is celebrated with picnics, barbecues, parades, parties, etc. and is the beginning of football season and other events.

Oh, yes, back to school, but school usually begins now in August instead of September.

We will never forget the horror of 9/11, just like the few of us that are still alive will never forget December 7, 1941 – Pearl Harbor Day.

I just had another stay in the hospital with COVID. This was my second time with COVID and it wasn’t nearly as bad this time, but still not a good ailment to have.

My daughter, Gracie, also had it at home and is now doing well. My family says I’m a tough “old bird” and I suppose I am to be 97.

Please keep me in your prayers. I need your prayers and a lot of you need the practice. I really need the prayers and just kidding about the practice.
