Lady Herons drop region series to No. 9 Bacon Co.

Brantley County dropped two of three Region 1A games in the series with ninth-ranked Bacon County.

The Lady Herons (6-5 overall, 4-5 region) have dropped four of their last six games with series losses to both Jeff Davis and the Lady Red Raiders.

Brantley County is scheduled to travel in Evans at the two-day Greenbrier tournament. The Lady Herons face Lakeside Friday (September 6) with matchups against Evans and host Greenbrier scheduled for Saturday.

BCHS returns to region play next week against Fitzgerald (2-10, 1-8). Game 1 of the three-game series is Tuesday, September 10 at home. The two teams will meet for a doubleheader Thursday, August 12 in Fitzgerald.

ALMA — Homestanding Bacon County pulled away from a 4-all tie with a sixth-run fifth inning in taking the series opener.

The Lady Red Raiders scored single runs in the first and third innings against Reagan Mclain (5 IP, 8 H, 10 R, 7 ER, 1 K, 3 BB, 1 HBP, 2 WP) in opening up a 2-0 lead.

Brantley County broke through in the fourth scoring three times in grabbing a 3-2 advantage. After Bacon County scored twice in the bottom of the fourth to recapture the lead at 4-3, the Lady Herons pushed home the tying run in the fifth.

Mclain led BCHS at the plate going 3-for-3 (double). Lydia Anderson and Lexi Byrd each went 2-for-3 (RBI).

Riley Story (solo homer), Sydnee Davis and Chelsea Turner posted 1-for-4 afternoons.

The Lady Herons committed seven errors in the game.

CANEY BAY — The Lady Red Raiders scored two runs in the top of the seven inning to overcome a 65 deficit to clinch a series win over Brantley County.

Bacon County scored twice in its first at bat against Mary Hall (7 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 2 K, 2 BB) with the Lady Herons plating three runs in the bottom of the first for a 3-2 lead.

The score remained a one-run difference until the sixth inning when the Lady Red Raiders pushed home three runs for a 5-3 lead. Brantley County responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth in grabbing a 6-5 lead.

Anderson (3-for-4) collected three of the Lady Herons’ seven hits. Byrd (2-for-3) blasted a three-run homer. Story and Davis each went 1-for-3.

CANEY BAY — Brantley County spotted the Lady Red Raiders a 3-0 lead before storming back with six unanswered runs to garner a split in the doubleheaders.

Bacon County plated two runs in the top of the first an another run in the third for a 3-0 lead against Turner (7 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 5 K, 2 BB, 1 HBP, 3 WP).

The Lady Herons stormed back with a four-run rally in the bottom of the third taking the lead for good at 4-3 on Kelsie Bishop’s (1-for-2, five ribbies) homer. They added two runs in the fifth for the final margin.

Six other players recorded a hit for BCHS. Brooklyn Wildes, Jayden Lewis, Mclain, Story (double, RBI), Turner and Byrd joined Bishop in the hit column.
