County approves purchases of nine generators for VFDs

NAHUNTA — The Brantley County Commissioners discussed and approved several items during Thursday night’s regular meeting.

Commissioners approved a bid for the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. This will be for a 22 kilowatt Generac generator for each of the nine fire stations. The commissioners approved the bid of Boyett for a total of $6,575 per generator.

The board will pay 10 percent of the costs up to $76,000. Commissioners approved paying $7,600 each which includes installation.

Commissioners approved a proposal from MLBA, Inc. to replace the cameras the in the Brantley County Courthouse. The cameras were struck by lightning three weeks ago. The total cost is $12,309.30.

The commission approved a contract for $49,449 for congregate and home delivered meals for the Senior Center. The local match is $4,945.

Commissioners approved the finalization of the rezoning of Satilla Plantation Phases 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, as well as Eagle Crest and Satilla Pastures from Residential One to Agricultural Residential.

Board members approved a bid for Freedom Solutions to begin work on concession and bathroom repairs at the Hortense Recreation site for a cost of $24,500.

Commissioners approved a bid for fencing the soccer field at John Wilson Park. The bid is for T&T in Waycross for $10,300. The funding will be from the Recreation Fund.

Trees have been cleared out and dirt added to the site in order for kids to have safer soccer practice.

The commission approved the amending of Chapter IX and Chapter X in the Human Resources policy. It deals with disciplinary action and grievances procedures. This amending will bring the policy up to date.

Board members approved several bids on county properties advertised in the legal organ.

The first was Goose Creek Road, Lot 12. The highest bidder was Sundown Enterprises, LLC. for $102.01.

Also on Goose Creek Road, Joshua and Candace Strickland were the highest bidders for the following:

Goose Creek Road, Lot 1 for $500.

Goose Creek Road, Lots 4, 5 and 6 for $750.

Goose Creek Road, Lots 7 and 8 for $750.

Kings Bay Road, Lots 9, 10, 43 and 60 all for $300 apiece.

104 Waterpump Road for $2,000.

Other high bids included Jim Mason on Felton Land Road, Lot 12 for $601, Jerry Lamb on First Avenue for $201.50 and P.R. Davison Highway 82 E for $8,502.

Also approved was resurfacing Riverside Road with asphalt overlay. Commissioners went with Scruggs Company with a bid of $1,006,361.70.

The replacement of the showers, lavatories and toilets at the jail was awarded to Hardtime Products with a bid of $68,500. Funding will come out of the Jail SPLOST.

Commissioners approved the purchase of two F-150 Responder trucks for the Sheriff’s Office from Brannen for a price of $52,000 per truck. This will also come out of the Jail SPLOST.

One is a replacement truck and the other is an additional truck.

The commission approved the purchase of a F250 Utility Truck for Public Works from Brannen for $62,704. Funding will be paid from the Public Works and Department SPLOST.

The Brantley County Commission will meet Tuesday, September 3 for its work session and Thursday, September 5 for the regular meeting.
