The Kayla Nance era is off to a good start with the first-year head coach leading Brantley County to four wins in five games including a region series win against Worth County.
The Lady Herons (4-1 overall, 2-1 Region 1A DI) opened the season with an 113 “mercy rule’ victory Saturday, August 10 over Charlton County. They followed with a 10-1 “mercy rule” decision Monday, August 12 against visiting Brunswick.
In the opening region series, Brantley County dropped the first game of the three-game series falling 3-2 Tuesday, August 13 to the Lady Rams in Sylvester. BCHS bounced back Thursday, August 15 sweeping the twinbill winning the opener 8-5 before clinching the series with a 10-2 “mercy rule” decision in the nightcap.
The Lady Herons play four times this week including the second three-game region series. Brantley County traveled Monday, August 19 to Brunswick. BCHS hosted Jeff Davis Tuesday, August 20 and travels Thursday, August 22 to Hazlehurst for a doubleheader.
Brantley County goes to Bacon County Tuesday, August 27 for Game 1 of a threegame series. The Lady Red Raiders visit Caney Bay for a twinbill Thursday, August 29.

FOLKSTON — Brantley County pulled away from a 2-all tie with a five-run third inning and put the game away with a four-run fifth for the “mercy rule” victory over the Indian Maidens.
The Lady Herons scored a first inning run with Charlton County responding with a two-run first. BCHS evened the score a 2-apiece with a run in the second followed by the five-run third for a 7-2 advantage.
Brantley County pushed home four runs in the fifth inning to build an 11-2 advantage. The Indians Maidens scored a run in the bottom of the fifth for the final margin.
Kelsie Bishop (1-for-1, three RBIs) and Rilee Story (2-for-3, four ribbies) blasted homers. Sydnee Davis joined Story with a multi-hit game going 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI.
Joining Bishop with a hit apiece were Emma Grace Blocker (1-for-1), Brooklyn Wildes (1-for-3) and Madison Walker (1for-1). Mallory Crosby led BCHS with two stolen bases. Walker and Davis recorded one apiece.
Mary Hall (4 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 K, 1 BB, 1 HBP) and Edie Lowther (1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 K, 0 BB, 1 HBP) combined for the win.
Charlton County’s Karleigh Crews collected half of the Indian Maidens’ hits going 2-for-2.

CANEY BAY — The Lady Herons kickstarted their “mercy rule” victory with a three-run first inning scoring in four of their five at bats to beat Brunswick.
Trailing 3-0, the Lady Pirates scored their only run in the second. Brantley County scored once in the third for a 4-1 lead and adding two in the fourth for a 6-1 advantate. BCHS ended the game in the bottom of the fifth with a four-run rally.
Lexi Byrd stroked three hits in three at bats to lead the Lady Herons. She blasted her first homer of the season and drove in four runs. Bishop went 2for-3. Lydia Anderson, Story (second homer) and Davis (two RBI) each went 1-for-3.
Caiden Jones swiped two bases with Blocker, Anderson and Mallory Crosby stealing a base apiece.
Reagan Mclain (3 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 K, 1 BB, 1 HBP) and Chelsea Turner (2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 5 K, 0 BB) combined on the one-hitter.

SYLVESTER — Worth County spotted the Lady Herons a 2-0 lead before holding on after a three-run third to pick up the win.
BCHS managed four hits with Mclain leading the way going 2-for-3 (triple, RBI). Anderson (1-for-3) and Story (1for-3, double) were credited with the other two hits.
Mclain (6 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 2 K, 0 BB) went the distance for Brantley County hurling just 76 pitches in the route going performance.

CANEY BAY — Brantley County slugged three homers using the long ball to turn back the Lady Rams.
Bishop (2-for-3, RBI) and Davis (2-for-3, three ribbies, stolen base) slammed their second homers of the season while Turner (1-for-3, two RBI) blasted her first. Story had a stole base.
Anderson (three stolen bases) led the hitting attack going 3-for-4. Mclain (1for-3, double), Wildes (1-for-3, RBI) and Byrd (1-for-3) had a hit apiece.
Turner (7 IP, 10 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 6 K, 2 BB) tossed 93 pitches in the recording a complete game.

CANEY BAY — The Lady Herons recorded their third “mercy rule” victory in five games and reached double digits in runs scored for the third time in getting the series victory over Worth County.
Mclain (5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER 5 K, 2 BB, 1 HBP) was the beneficiary of the run support.
Wildes (3-for-4, two doubles, three RBIs) and Bishop (3-for-3, double, two RBI) led the 11-hit attack. Anderson (1for-4), Story (1-for-2, stolen base), Davis (1-for-2, homer, two RBI), Turner (1-for-3) and Jayden Lewis (1-for-2, two RBI) contributed a hit each.
