Dowling family reunion on Aug. 11 HOBOKEN — Descendants of John R. and Vandelia Dowling will hold a family reunion from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, August 11 at Hoboken Elementary School, 224 Church Street.

Attendees should bring a covered dish for the meal.

Letter to Church’ screening Thursday

WAYCROSS — There will be a screening of the movie, “Letter to the American Church” at 6 p.m., Thursday, August 8 at Mall Cinema 7, 2260 Brunswick Hwy.

Citizens Defending Freedom Co-founder Steve Maxwell and Remnant Alliance Ambassador Jim Abney will provide commentary after the movie.

The movie follows the 2022 best-selling book by Eric Metaxas, who also has produced and distributed the film.

The book paralled the American church today with its German counterpart shortly before and in the early days of Adolph Hitler’s chancellorship.

Metaxas He believes now is the time for churches and their congregations in the United States to do the same given the social and political climate of the day.

UN expert talks on UNESCO Aug. 22 WAYCROSS — Nationally syndicated radio host and United Nations expert Alex Newman will give a presentation about UNESCO at 7 p.m., Thursday, August 22 at the Waycross Exchange Club, 2401 Knight Avenue.

The event, presented by Americans for the Okefenokee, is free.

Lyons-Hickox reunion set Aug. 10

HOBOKEN — Members of the Lynes-Lyons-Hickox family will hold a reunion at noon, Saturday, August 10 in the Hoboken Community Center, 294 Chicago Avenue, Hoboken.

Attendees should bring a covered side or a dessert for the 1 p.m. lunch, along with any family photos you want to share.

Foster Park sets Swamper Heritage Stephen C. Foster State Park, 17515 Ga. Hwy 17 in Fargo, will hold Swamper Heritage Day from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, October 26.

Visit the Okefenokee frontier in the 19th Century to experience life as it was in the remote wilderness. Walk among authentic settler camps to see demonstrations on blacksmithing, pine needle basketry, spinning and weaving, and musket firing.

Griffin-Bell family reunion Nov. 24 HOBOKEN — The annual Griffin-Bell family reunion will be held Sunday, November 24 at the lunchroom of Hoboken Elementary, 224 Church Street.
