Tanner
NAHUNTA — Talan James Tanner, 17 of Nahunta, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at UF Health Jacksonville.
Born in Brunswick, Tanner’s parents are Jessica Melissa Highsmith Tanner and Michael Tanner. He was preceded in death by his papa, James Charles Highsmith; maternal great grandfather, Ellis “Big E” Courson; and maternal great grandparents, Ellis Hilton and Alma Johns Highsmith; and also his paternal great grandparents.
Tanner was a member of The Foundation. He was a very active teenager and a fantastic athlete. He loved playing baseball, basketball and pickleball.
He was always making everyone laugh and was the life of the party.
Tanner loved his family and friends and spending time with them. In his downtime, he enjoyed playing video games and watching Lightning McQueen.
Survivors include his parents, Michael and Jessica Tanner of Nahunta; sister, Brylie Alma Melissa Tanner of Nahunta; maternal grandma, Sherri Courson Rowell of Nahunta; paternal grandparents, Renee Strickland (Steven) of Blackshear; his great grandmother, Chloe Courson Corbett (Jimmy) of West Green, Ga.; aunts and uncles, Lisa Johnson (Branden) of West Olive, Michigan, Ronnie “Lee” Long (Veronica) of Louisiana, Philip Long (Jessica) of Blackshear, Bobby Tanner (Ashley) of Hoboken, Ramey Rowell (Tabitha) of Brunswick, Chloe’ Staggs (Jordan) of Waycross; a special cousin, Axton Link Rowell of Nahunta; Coach Mike and his Blazers’ family; also several cousins, other relatives and a host of friends.
A funeral service was scheduled Monday, August 5, 2024 at the Brantley County High School gym with Pastor Ashton Ham and Bro. David Herrin officiating.
Burial was to follow in New Hope Cemetery.
Pallbearers were coach Mike Hendrix, Payton Hanchey, Hayden Hickox, James Hendrix, Kaden Hendrix, Carson Coger, Eli Nielson, Kent Thomas, Jackson Rowell and Casey Hendrix.
Honorary pallbearers were Brantley County and Pierce County Class of 2026 and the Brantley County Senior Resource Officers.
Arrangements were with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
