Charles “Chuck” Scragg III is Pierce County’s new interim manager.
Scragg was introduced at the new interim manager at last Tuesday’s commission meeting.
Commissioners approved a contract with Scragg that will run through March, 2023.
“I am pleased to be here,” he said. “I will ‘drive the ship’ until a new permanent manager is hired.”
Scragg will replace Jason Rubenbauer, who resigned last month to take a job as president and chief executive officer of the Waycross-Ware County Development Authority. Rubenbauer had been county manager for about five and a half years.
Scragg, a native of West Virginia, retired in 2014 after a career with Georgia Power and has been involved in county management since that time. He has served as county manager on an interim basis for Brantley and Gilmer counties and has also worked for the Glynn County Development Authority.
Scragg had the opportunity to work with outgoing manager Rubenbauer before Rubenbauer’s last day Nov. 1.
Commissioners also officially accepted Rubenbauer’s resignation at the meeting.
In other personnel decisions, commissioners appointed Chuck Yeargin as county clerk and human resources generalist, positions which Rubenbauer previously held. Yeargin is currently serving as assistant fire chief.
Commissioners also re-appointed Franklin Rozier Jr. as county attorney. Rozier has served as county manager since 2017 in his latest stint. He previously served as county attorney before stepping down in 2012 to seek appointment as a superior court judge and later to run for the State House of Representatives. Both tries were unsuccessful.
Rozier previously served as solicitor and state court judge here for almost three decades and has had a law practice in Pierce County for over 40 years.
