Pierce County Middle School’s Lady Bears 8thgrade basketball team won three times in action last week.
The Lady Bears tipped the Southeast Georgia Middle School Athletic Conference season with a 28-22 victory November 4 at Bethune Middle School in Folkston, doubled up visiting Ware County Middle School 36-18 Monday, November 11, and beat Long County Middle School 21-15 Tuesday, November 12 in Ludowici.
No reports were filed in matchups with Brantley County Middle School nor Wayne County Middle School.
PCMS hosted Waycross Middle Monday (November 18), traveled to Frederica Academy Tuesday (November 19) and to Ware Middle Thursday, November 21 to wrap up the first three weeks of the season.
The Lady Bears return to action Monday, December 2 at home vs. Appling County Middle School, host Frederica Academy Thursday, December 5 and finish the regular season Monday, December 9 at Bacon County Middle School.
The conference “Final Four” is slated for Thursday, December 12 with the championship set for Friday, December 13 with the No. 1 seeded boys’ team hosting.
Lady Bears ............28 Bethune.................22 FOLKSTON — Pierce Middle led at the end of every quarter outscoring the Lady Braves in all but one quarter in slipping out with the road win.
Brooklyn Thomas paced the Lady Bears with 12 points. Harper Larson followed with 10 points with Kamil Strickland adding six points.
PCMS built a 10-6 lead in the first period. The Lady Bears outpointed Bethune 8-5 in the second stanza to open up an 18-11 halftime advantage.
The Lady Braves sliced four points off the margin during the third quarter outscoring Pierce Middle 7-3 to get to within 21-18. PCMS closed the game outscoring the home team 7-4 for the final margin.
Lady Bears ............36 Ware Middle..........18 BEARVILLE — The Lady Bears steadily pulled away from a one-point first quarter lead in knocking off Ware Middle.
Ahead just 4-3 at the end of a sluggish first quarter, PCMS outpointed the Lady Gators 11-6 in the second period to take a 159 lead at intermission.
The Lady Bears used a 9-4 scoring advantage in the third stanza to stretch the margin out to 24-13. They outpointed Ware Middle 12-5 in the final quarter.
Thomas netted a gamehigh 12 points with Larson adding 10 points. Strickland finished with eight points. Brylee Walker, Aubree Wilksins and Nylah Jackson chipped in two points each.
Lady Bears .............21 Long Middle...........15 LUDOWICI — PCMS jumped out to an eightpoint advantage in the first quarter and held off the challenge of the Lady Blue Tide.
Thomas led six players in the Lady Bears’ scoring column with six points. Walker and Larson contributed five points and four points respectively. Zayleigh Raithel, Strickland and Wilkins each bagged two points.
Pierce Middle raced out to a 10-2 first quarter lead. Long Middle used a 5-2 scoring advantage in the second stanza to get to within 12-7 at the break.
The Lady Blue Tide chipped another point off the deficit in the third period outscoring PCMS 5-4 to close to within 1612. The Lady Bears finished the game outscoring the home team 5-3.
