PCHS student referees now certified for football, volleyball and soccer

Pierce County High School’s (PCHS) first-ofits- kind Fundamentals of Officiating class continues to progress in earning their certifications. Under the guidance of Coach Jason Bradley, an Environmental Science teacher at PCHS, the class of seven students recently completed certifications for football, volleyball and soccer.

As previously reported in the Sept. 25 edition of The Times, students Ashton Bowen, Eliz Brazel, Brandon Griffin, Eric Merida, Briar Rozier, Auburn Walker and Archy Shuman are enrolled in Georgia’s first vocational high school class dedicated to officiating sports events. Many of them plan to pursue officiating sports events as a lucrative sideline following graduation.

In the meantime, class members are already putting their knowledge to work on the field, officiating over 50 games at the Pierce County Rec Dept, Adult Soccer League in Ware County and on Jekyll Island for a recent two day tournament at the Southern Soccer Academy.

As for what lies next for his seven future referees, Bradley said, “We are in the process of completing baseball and basketball now.”
