A revaluation of all county tax parcels is nearing completion according to a report given to the county commission last Tuesday night.
Representatives from Georgia Mass Appraisal Solutions and Services (GMASS) gave an update on the revaluation at the meeting.
GMASS has conducted the field reviews of over 12,500 parcels county-wide. About 375 parcels remain to be reviewed and those should be completed by the end of the year.
The appraisals have been underway for the last three months.
GMASS will receive $330,000 for the work.
Under state law, all counties must have an appraisal ratio of between 36-44 percent. Pierce County’s ratio has fallen to 34.3 percent.
It was pointed out the county has lost approximately $110,000 in tax revenue as a result of the ratio being outside of state guidelines.
If a county’s ratio is consistently incorrect, those county’s can face fines and penalties until it is corrected.
GMASS appraisers conducting field reviews will have ID badges and their vehicles will be marked as GMASS contractor/appraiser.
