Retired middle school principal Perry Tison has been appointed as the new representative for district two on the board of education.
The school board made the appointment at its regul a r monthly meeting Monday night.
The vac ancy came open after the Rev. Mitch Hall resigned his seat last month.
Hall’s resignation came after he and his family bought a new home in Blackshear outside of the district he represents.
Tison is a veteran educator with 34 years experience in education, with 31 of those in Pierce County. He served as principal at Pierce County Middle School for almost 10 years before retiring in January, 2020.
He is a member and deacon at First Baptist Church of Blackshear.
Hall was first elected to the post running unopposed in 2018 and he ran for re-election unopposed in 2022. He is currently mid-way through his second term on the board.
Under Georgia Law, the Pierce County Board of Education has the authority to appoint someone to fill the remainder of Hall’s term.
The seat will be up for election in the non-partisan primary in the spring of 2026.
District two includes portions of the city of Blackshear and then proceeds south roughly between Georgia Highway 121 and U.S. Highway 84 south to the Satilla River.
