PCMS/HS swimmers post 1st-place finishes

BAXLEY — Pierce County High School’s and Pierce County Middle School’s swim teams competed here Saturday in a meet hosted by Appling County.

The Lady Bears and Bears placed third in the seven-team high school event November 9. PCMS’s Lady Bears finished third with the Bears copping a fifth-place showing.

PCMS hosted a home meet Tuesday (November 12) at the Waycross YMCA.

High School meet

The girls’ 200-yard freestyle relay team consisting of Alexandra Ortiz, Devyn Ball, Jasmine Sergent and Teagan Dixon placed third with a time of 2:25.45.

In the boys’ individual events, Sam Chesser captured the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.22 seconds. Teagan Dixon placed third in the 50-yard free posting a mark of 28.8 seconds and third in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:10.83.

The Bears’ 400-yard freestyle relay team of Davis Dyal, Sam Chesser, Donald Moser and Walker Sergent were second with a time of 4:22.35.

Middle School meet

Jaxon Coates and Lyla Brooker posted first-place finishes in their respective individual events.

Coates won the 50-yard breastroke with a time of 39.55 seconds with Brooker claiming the girls’ 50-yard backstroke with a time of 38.38 seconds.

Both finished fourth in their 50-yard freestyle events with Coates posting a time of 31.84 seconds and Brooker finishing with a time of 31.67 seconds.

The Lady Bears’ 200-yard freestyle relay team of Lyla Brooker, Charli Paszko, Sophia Cochran and Aly Yeomans logged a fourth-place finish with a time of 2:28.19.
