Mary Elizabeth Godwin departed this life Thursday, November 10, 2022, at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross.
She was born August 30, 1958 in Blackshear. She was the second oldest of seven children born to the late Cecil Madison Jones Sr. and Geneva Mackey Jones NeSmith. She was preceded in death by her late sister, Pearlie Mae Davis and two brothers, Curtis Lee Jones and Cecil Madison Jones Jr.
She received her formal education in the Pierce County school system and was a graduate of Blackshear High School. She later obtained further education from the University of Georgia. She was formerly employed at Bayview Nursing home for over 17 years as a dietary manager, in addition to working at Baptist Village Long term care facility for over 15 years in a similar managerial position. Later in life, she owned a barbeque business named “Jones BBQ” in Waycross.
She accepted Christ early in life and her love for people and fellowship is where she found her passion and love for inspiring people. She not only worked endlessly as an active leader of the youth at God’s Tabernacle of Deliverance, but also served as a worship leader for the choir of the church. During her leisure time, she enjoyed her grandchildren, shopping, the beauty salon and time with her devoted husband.
She leaves cherished and fond memories of her with her loving husband William Godwin, Blackshear; two daughters Kimberly Denton (Demetrius), Nahunta and Courtney Hagan, Brunswick; three grandchildren, Breanna Denton-Burse (Gabe) Greensboro, NC, Amaria Denton, Nahunta and Lyric Flournoy, Brunswick; sister Yvette Herring (Freddie); two brothers, Apostle Felton Jones (Aleisha), Blackshear and Kenneth Jones (Brenda) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other sorrowing relatives and cherished friends.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, at the funeral home, 505 Ware Street, Blackshear. Family and friends are also being received at 3336 Piney Grove Circle, Blackshear.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, from the God’s Tabernacle of Deliverance Church, 3131 U.S. Highway 84, Blackshear.
Interment will follow in the Blackshear City Cemetery, Bazemore Drive, Blackshear.
A repast will follow at the Lee Street Resource Center, 623 Sycamore Street, Blackshear.
