Dixon
Avery Waustene Dixon, 88, of Blackshear, passed away Saturday morning, November 2, 2024, at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House in Waycross.
Born in Blackshear, January 7, 1936, he had lived most of his life in Pierce and Coffee Counties. Like most young gentlemen of his time, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was very proud of his service to his country. He was a hard-worker and great provider for his family, working for many years and eventually retiring from PCC Air Foil as senior maintenance supervisor. He enjoyed being outdoors and loved working in his garden, caring for his blueberries and peaches. Although he could be persuaded at times, his children knew that “no meant no” and knew that he would have provided what was needed. A lover of all types of music, he was always humming or singing whatever was on the radio. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was a son of the late Leonard Moore and Margurite Ethel Crawford Dixon. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lynda Gayle McCall Dixon; a sister, Linda Carstetter and three brothers, Gerald Dixon, Donald Dixon and Revis Dixon.
Survivors include wife, Dorothy “Dot” Allday Dixon, Blackshear; a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Steven Sellers, Blackshear; sons and daughters-in-law, James “Jimmy” and Debbie Dixon, Gregory Steven Dixon and Brian and Misty Dixon, all of Douglas; two sisters, Diane Boyett, Blackshear and Sue (Cliff) Bakhsh, Middletown, DE; a brother, Wendell Dixon, Jesup; 11 grandchildren, Scott (Sharon) Dixon, Seth (Emma) Dixon, Blake Dixon, Breanna (Lance) Lanttanzie, Ridge Sellers, Ethan Dixon, Zane (Darby) Dixon, Slade Sellers, Tiffiany (Justen) Kitchens, Darryan (Jarrett) Ferris and Paris Dixon; 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
