Fifth grade students at Blackshear Elementary School (BES) recently enjoyed a Huddle House experience to finish up the physical and chemical changes unit of their physical science class.
Jennifer Mattox, 5th grade science teacher, stated, 'Thanks to our participating community partners, our students at BES were able to experience how physical and chemical changes occur in the real world around them.' The students were treated to eggs, bacon, sausage, and pancakes as well as chocolate milk.
Several donations were received to make the activity successful. McDonald's in Blackshear provided sausage patties, Cal-Maine donated eggs and Piggly Wiggly of Blackshear and D L Lee of Alma, for providing the bacon.
The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office sent several deputies to assist with the activity. 'The group of men stepped in and fried almost 15 pounds of bacon so that each child could have a piece. They were happy to assist, and the students were excited to see them helping out. We were blessed to have them,' said fifth grade science and social studies teacher Amanda Moody.
Also, in action behind the scene were the Pierce County 4-H extension agents, Billie Ann King and Carrie Carter. Moody stated, 'We would not have been able to cook enough for all of our students without these two ladies. They cooked eggs and flipped pancakes for hours to make sure our students enjoyed this activity.'
The BES fifth graders were delighted to have so many special guests assisting with this unique activity.
