United Parcel Service (UPS) will close its Blackshear customer service center Nov. 15.
The company confirmed through its public relations department that the customer service center located at 408 Nichols Street, Blackshear, will close effective Friday, Nov. 15.
“We are closing select UPS Customer Centers to better align with our customers’ preferences for more convenient and easily accessible drop-off options,” said a spokesperson for UPS. “We will continue our high standard of customer service through a wide range of resources that are available to our customers, including UPS Drop Boxes, 10,000 full-service retail shipping locations, such as ...nearby UPS access point locations(.)” The spokesperson referred customers to the company’s website www.ups.com for information on the nearest drop off and shipping locations.
The company had offered customer service at the customer service counter in Blackshear from 3:306 p.m. weekdays.
UPS says the Blackshear service center closure is one of more than 200 nationwide. The closures are part of the company’s “Network of the Future” initiative which aims to reduce UPS’ reliance on manual labor and automate more of its operations. The initiative is aimed at making the company more efficient and saving some $3 billion over the next four years
