PCHS puts wrap on x-country regular season

JESUP — Pierce County’s cross-country teams competed here Thursday afternoon at the Wayne County meet.

The Bears finished eighth in the 11-team boys event held October 24 while the Lady Bears were one runner shy of having a team score with only four members participating.

Tiny Atkinson County easily won the boys’ event with 53 points. The Rebels were followed by South Effingham (90), host Wayne County (102), Tattnall County (109), Coffee (131), Long County (137), Bradwell Institute (150), PCHS (184), Appling County (201), Brantley County (224) and McIntosh County Academy (309).

In the girls’ meet, South Effingham dominated the field, placing all five runners in the top five spots to finish with 15 points. The Lady Mustangs were followed by Coffee (72), Long County (114), Brantley County (126), Wayne County (133), Bradwell Institute (140), Appling County (155) and Atkinson County (174).

Dylan Hersey paced the Bears, placing 26th in the field of 79 runners with a season-best time of 19:50.51. The winning time was 17:28.69.

Trailing Hersey were Chase Smith (29th, 19:57.91), Samuel Carrillo (30th, season-best 19:58.96), Micah Bryant (48th, season-best 21:23.22), Jeb Bradley (56th, 22:01.08), Coleman Lee (63rd, 23:24.06), Will McIntosh (69th, 24:41.34) and Lucas Sapp (71st, 24:58.70).

The Lady Bears were lead by Nevaeh Grant’s 39th-place finish in the field of 62 runners with a time of 28:42.33. The winning time posted was 20:50.97.

Following Grant were Ana Llamas- Diaz (44th, 29:25.53), Emma Strickland (45th, 29:37.15) Ansleigh Cyr (31:59) and Addison Folette (58th, 34:36.10).

PCHS will travel Saturday, November 2 to Fairburn for the GHSA Class AA State Sectionals, consisting of Regions 1, 2, 3 and 4 being held at Bouckaert Farm and hosted by Alexander High School. The boys will run at 9:15 a.m., and girls at 10:45 a.m.
