Young mother gunned down in driveway

Kim Guess headed out to her car in the driveway of her Ware Street home in the chilly pre-dawn hours of Thursday morning, October 17. She never made it. The young mother was gunned down in her driveway.

“She was heading out to warm up the car and she never came back inside,” recalls her mother, Shirley Turner Lee. “I have no feeling left in me. My heart is crushed. Someone took my baby — my only daughter — from me.

Guess, 34, was shot “multiple times” as she headed out to her car. One of her children, an 11 year old, was home at the time of the murder.

According to Blackshear Police Chief Chris Wright, officers received a call to a residence in the 800 block of Ware Street at 5:30 a.m. Thursday morning where Guess was found deceased from gun shot wounds.

Wright said investigators are currently working the case and suspects have been identified, though no arrests have been made yet.

“I assure citizens we are working very had chasing leads and covering all angles to solve the case,” said Wright.

Wright declined additional comment citing the ongoing investigation.

Authorities have not given a motive for the murder, though circumstances suggest Guess knew her killer.

“Some sorry piece of sh*t took it upon himself to shoot her. I'm angry and I want justice for Kim. She was murdered for no reason at all,” said Lee.
