The South Georgia Daylily Society in Blackshear kicked off its new year Sept. 17 with their meeting at First Baptist Church (FBC) in Blackshear.
A delicious meal was enjoyed followed by a wonderful program presented by Tim Bell and his wife Linda of Bell's Daylily Garden in Sycamore.
Bell brought lots of very important information on the growing and care of our daylilies. He also brought daylilies to sell which the members were thrilled about.
Our October meeting was held at FBC in Blackshear October 15. After our delicious covered dish dinner our speaker, Harley Herrin of 1831 Garden Center in Waycross, presented a program on “Principles of Floral Design and Art.'
Herrin showed us ways to use the flowers we have grown in our gardens to prepare beautiful flower arrangements for our homes. During his presentation he made four beautiful arrangements which went home with four lucky members after a special drawing.
During the meeting President Vickie Vincent presented the new slate of officers for the next two years. These officers were voted on favorably by the members in attendance and will begin their responsibilities in January 2025.
New officers for the South Georgia Daylily Society are President-Bob Kimbrell; Vice President-Rhonda Mullis; Recording Secretary-Frances Simmons; Corresponding Secretary-Nancy Perry and Treasurer-Jennifer Tanner.
Our next meeting will be on the third Tuesday in January 2025 at First Baptist Church in Blackshear.
Fall is in the air and we are all preparing our flower beds for the coming months.
