Welcome back to PCHS Bear Facts! From the halls of Pierce County High School, here is our list of hot topics for the week spanning Sept. 7-13, 2022.

Congratulations to Bears senior football player D.J. Bell, who was named the Coastal Pines Technical College Male Athlete of the Week for his week one performance against Jeff Davis High School. D.J. rushed for 251 yards and tied his school record with five touchdowns. He also passed for a touchdown.

Juniors: If you are at least 16 years old, remember you will have until September 19 to provide proof of an MCV4 booster shot. If you don’t have the shot, you will not be able to attend school at PCHS after Monday, Sept. 19 until you have satisfied that requirement. If your parents wish to apply for a religious exemption, see Pam Harrell in the guidance office. The MCV4 shot is available at the health department or at most physicians’ offices. This is not the same as the COVID vaccine.

The dress code remains in effect at PCHS. Remember: hats are not to be worn inside the building. Also, shorts are not permitted to be rolled or worn in any other manner that causes them to be shorter than the specified length. Thanks for keeping it classy!

Make your voices heard! Students in grades 10-12 are invited by Pierce County Superintendent, Mrs. Dara Bennett, to be part of the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council. An application has been emailed to you via your school email account. The application deadline is Friday, Sept. 9.

This Friday is the deadline to sign up for the FBLA Motivational Rally at Six Flags on October 3. FBLA will have the whole park to themselves with more than a dozen thrill rides. The $70 registration also fee includes an all-you-can-eat lunch buffet. See Mrs. Whitaker to sign up.

Driver’s Ed classes will resume this Saturday, Sept. 10. Please see Erik Thumann for more information.

Patterson Baptist Church’s Clothing Closet in Patterson will host a clothing event on Saturday, Sept. 17 from 9 a.m. until noon. All school aged students in the community may receive new or slightly worn clothing at no cost. For more information contact [email protected].

FCA meets every Thursday morning at 7:45 in the auditorium. Everyone is invited to attend and to bring a friend. It’s a great way to start the day.

Students, you are permitted to charge up to $15 on your meal account at the Bear Cafe If you owe more than $15, an alternate meal will be offered. Also, you are not permitted to charge ala carte items. All charges must be paid in full before the last week of each semester.

Students: remember that once you arrive on campus each morning, you are required to enter the building immediately. This applies whether you are a bus rider, car rider or driver. You also must not leave the building until the end of the day without following check out guidelines. Also, please remember you are not permitted to talk on your cell phones while in the building. Thank you for your cooperation.

It’s time to start planning for homecoming dress-up days, which will be September 19-26. This year’s theme is “We’ve got the Beat” and the daily themes are as follows: Disco Day (Monday), Patriotic Day (Tuesday), Western Day (Wednesday), Twin Day (Thursday) and School Spirit Day (Friday).

Juniors: work days for the homecoming float will be Sept. 12-16 in the auto shop at PCHS after school. Please see Rhonda Bennett if you have questions.

Lady Bears softball is back at home Thursday in region action against Vidalia. The JV game is at 4 p.m. First pitch of the varsity game is 6 p.m. The varsity game will be broadcast on the NFHS Network.

Meanwhile, volleyball is on the road against Liberty County and Groves in Hinesville. JV action begins at 4 p.m. The Lady Bears play varsity action at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.

On the gridiron, the JV football Bears play their home opener against Ware County on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. That game will be broadcast on the NFHS Network.

The varsity football Bears host their regular season opener Friday versus Liberty County. It will be Rec. Night at Bears Stadium. Student tickets will be on sale all week during lunch. You can also buy your ticket at the gate or online at GoFan.co. Kickoff is 7:30 and you can watch the game on the NFHS Network or listen on radio station 97.7 FM.
