Early voting going on now

Early voting for the Nov. 5 general election began yesterday, Tuesday, October 15 and will continue through Friday, November 1.

The Pierce County Board of Elections and Registration has provided information about the upcoming vote.

Early voting will be from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Board of Elections office at 312 Nichols Street, Blackshear.

Saturday voting will take place from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays, October 19 and 26.

Absentee ballots can be requested by application from now until Friday, October 25.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 5, at the county’s two precincts at the Pierce County Gym in Blackshear and at Eagle Station in Patterson.

While there will be no local races on the ballot, Pierce County residents will choose their preference for president and will elect their U.S. Congressman from the first district.

Incumbent Buddy Carter (R, Pooler, St. Simons Island) is being challenged by Bryan County businesswoman and Democrat Patti Hewitt.

Voters will also consider two constitutional amendments and a state wide referendum all related to tax policy.

A sample ballot is included in today’s edition of The Times. A public notice on the constitutional amendments and statewide referendum is also included in this week’s edition.
