Doretha Nell Brown

Doretha Nell Brown, 71, passed away Friday, afternoon, September 27, 2024, after a lengthy illness. Her family was close in attendance at her bedside until her death.

She was born July 25, 1953 in Hinesville to the late Thomas Henry Jenkins, Freddie Lee Brown and Doretha Givens Brown. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe Hayward and Freddie Lee Brown Jr., a grandson, Alexander Shields; two special uncles, R.W. Riley and Eddie Givens and a special aunt, Thelma Givens Riley.

She attended the public schools in Tattnall County. She was employed in the housekeeping department of the Pierce County Nursing Home in Blackshear until she retired after 20 years of service. She was known for spending her free time at a pond or creek fishing the day away. She enjoyed dancing and entertaining her friends with lots of laughs, food and music. She was a friend’s friend. She could talk with anyone about anything, giving them comfort in knowing “If God did it for me He will do it for you.”

She attended Powerhouse of Faith Ministries before her health failed where she calls Dr. Kenneth A Kirksey Sr. her pastor.

She leaves to cherish her memories one son, James Doe Jr. (Natasha), Waycross; three daughters, Theresa Shields, Jacksonville FL, Andra Tyson (Daryl), Waycross, Ethel Mae President (Marlo), Waycross; one brother: Ernest Edwards (Remanda), Douglas ; three sisters, Julia Edwards, Bristol, Paula Edwards LaCount, Orlando, FL and Hattie Edwards, Jacksonville FL; one aunt, Patsy Givens, Brunswick; two uncles, Frank Givens, Hazlehurst and Perry Deloach, Washington, DC; two bonus daughters, Vivian Cook, Glennville and Idella Bradley, Brunswick; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two god-children; special someone, James Williams (JW), Waycross; two special cousins, Janie Mae Henderson, Blackshear and Larry Kirkland, Rochester NY; two special friend, Rosa Mae Moody (Skeeter), Glennville Ga. and Linda Phillips, Baxley and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life service was held at 3 p.m. Saturday, October 5, from the Little Rock Holiness Church, 648 Enoch Walker Road, Glennville.

Interment followed in the Glennville Memorial Gardens on U.S. Highway 301 North in Glennville.
