Don’t look now, but is Milton headed this way?

Don’t look now, but Pierce County could feel the effects of yet another hurricane today or tonight, Wednesday, Oct. 9.

At press time, powerful, major Hurricane Milton was located in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico and appeared headed toward a landall on the central Florida Gulf Coast near the Sarasota-Tampa area.

Public safety director Blake James said while the storm does not post an immediate threat, he encourages residents to be weather aware this week.

James said the National Weather Service has projected wind of up to tropical storm force of 39 m.p.h. and from 1-4 inches of rain from Milton, but those are both worst case scenarios.

“If Milton remains on its current path, we will just get brushed by it as it passes out to the Atlantic,” he said. “The track may still change, however.”

Updates will be shared via The Times’ Facebook page as conditions warrant.
