James Wesley Turner Sr.

James Wesley Turner Sr., 78, passed away November 28, 2021, at his residence in Jacksonville, FL, with his wife, Cecilia, by his side.

He was a native of Waycross, he was born May 1, 1943, to Surry Wesley and Lola Cannon Turner.

He was also known as “Big Jim” to many. He graduated from Ware County High School, class of 1961, where he was a star athlete in football and basketball as well as track and field. He was awarded all-state honors in his senior year of football. He attended Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN. He was a born salesman, devoted most of his career to the plumbing and mechanical related industry. He retired from Interline Brands as a senior account representative after several years of dedicated service. He was a loving and devoted husband, son, brother, father and grandfather.

“Over the years, he enjoyed coaching football, basketball and baseball and fishing with his sons and friends. Mostly, he loved being with his family any chance he had. He was a big man in stature, with an even bigger heart and sense of compassion. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him,” said his family.

He is reunited in heaven with his parents and infant daughter, Penny Ann Turner and infant son, Patrick.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Cecelia Moore (Aunt Tena); sister, Linda Tatum, Callahan, FL; sons James Wesley Turner Jr. (Jennifer), St. Augustine, FL and Anthony Paul Turner (Terri), Jacksonville, FL; six grandchildren, Ashley, Whitley, Colby Sydney, Kaitlyn and Lola.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 24, from the Ben James Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery near Blackshear.
