U.S. Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (RPooler/ St. Simons Island) toured Pierce County last week to receive a first hand view of damage caused by Hurricane Helene and receive updates on needs and recovery efforts.
The visit was part of a swing through other first district counties, including Glynn, Ware and Wayne Counties.
“Thank you to the brave first responders, EMA employees, linemen, and everyone who is stepping up to keep Georgia’s First Congressional District safe in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. The damage, especially to our growers, farmers and producers, cannot be overstated. My prayers are with everyone who is grieving the loss of life and property following this historic destruction,” said Rep. Carter. “I’m calling on Congress to swiftly approve all necessary funding to assist our community’s recovery and am ready to return to Washington to get the job done.”
Rep. Carter has been in constant communication with the White House, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and Governor Brian Kemp to expand the Major Disaster Declaration to include all impacted First District counties. This declaration releases federal funding to help the recovery of communities and individuals impacted by Hurricane Helene. Currently, the qualifying First District counties include: Appling, Bacon, Chatham, Liberty, Pierce and Ware.
Residents in qualifying counties can apply for assistance the following ways:
