Rezoning approved by Commissioners, paving way for newest Dollar General

Pierce County will have its sixth Dollar General franchise.

Commissioners approved rezoning 2.68 acres for the new store at their regular meeting Tuesday night, August 2.

The newest Dollar General will be constructed at the intersection of U.S. Highway 84 and County Farm Road, across the road from the United Market.

The approval is pending a traffic review by the Georgia Department of Transportation. Plans call for access to the store via a driveway coming off County Farm Road.

Third district Commissioner Randy Dixon and former planning commission chairman Tony Walsh both expressed safety concerns due to the proximity of the new store location to the middle and high schools.

The commission approved changing the zoning from Agriculture/Forestry (AF) to Neighborhood Commercial (NC). .

Other Dollar General locations in Pierce County include 2019 GA-121, Bristol; 6525 US-84, Patterson; 1590 U.S. Highway 84, Blackshear and 992 Yeomans St, Blackshear.

The current newest location at 4637 St Johns Church Rd, Blackshear opened in 2021.
