Our hearts were broken to learn of the death of Blackshear Assistant Fire Chief Leon Davis.
Davis died in the line-of-duty early Friday morning as Hurricane Helene raged through Pierce County.
Davis is a hero who gave his life serving the community he loved.
Davis was an affable and likable fellow and never missed an opportunity to help those in need and serve others.
We owe a great deal to Davis and all those in our community who dedicate themselves to being firefighters, law enforcement officers, paramedics and emergency medical technicians and first responders.
They are all part of a team of selfless individuals who run toward danger and peril when everyone else is running away from it.
We know our community will rally behind the Davis family and all of our public safety personnel in this time of grief.
We encourage each of you to take a moment out of your day to stop and thank all of our public safety personnel and even offer them a hug or some other gesture of thanks.
It is the very least we can do. Thank you for your service Assistant Chief Leon Davis. We are grateful for your dedication and devotion to all of us.
