The old Grady Street School is gone now, but it had nothing to do with Hurricane Helene, though the school did disappear the same day the storm came to Blackshear. As previously reported by The Times, the Grady Street School was scheduled for demolition some months ago. It was coincidence the scheduled tear down of the building occurred the very day Pierce County braced for the impact of Helene. The piles of rubble left behind were still visible Saturday and Sunday to vehicles gathering in the field behind where the school once stood, a staging area for the Blackshear Church of God’s free hot lunch drive through. The above shot of the main entrance was captured shortly before it was toppled down. How many students passed through this doorway over the years?
