Bears open regular season defeating Jeff Davis 56-17

The Pierce County Bear football team kicked off the 2022 regular season with a 56-17 victory over Jeff Davis County last Friday, August 26, in Hazlehurst. The Bears are ranked fourth in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution AA poll and will travel to Metter this Friday, September 2. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.

The match-up will be the second overall and first since September 18, 1981. The Bears won the previous game 21-14. Metter is currently 1-1 this season and is ranked 9th in the AJC A poll. Tigers lost to Swainsboro 21-7 August 19 and defeated Emanuel County Institute (ECI) 28-14 last Friday.

Scoring Recap

In Friday’s season opener, the Bears opened up the scoring on a three-yard run by senior running back DJ Bell. Jonah Allen added the extra point to make the score 7-0 at the 9:12 point in the first quarter.

The next Bear score looked much like the first, a two-yard run by Bell. Allen added the extra point making the score 14-0 with 6:41 remaining in the first quarter.

The Bears scored on another Bell run, this one for 23-yards. Allen converted the extra point to make the score 21-0 at the 3:00 mark in the first quarter.

The fourth score by the Bears came with 6:36 left in the second quarter on a five-yard pass from Bell to Carson Sloan. Allen made the extra point to make the score 28-0.

Jeff Davis scored on a 29-yard field goal to make the score 28-3 with 3:57 remaining in the second quarter.

The Bears answered on a 10-yard run by Bell and with the extra point by Allen, the score was 35-3 at the 1:51 mark in the second quarter.

Jeff Davis started the scoring in the third quarter on a four-yard touchdown run making the score 28-10 with 6:15 left in the third quarter.

The Bears were the next to score on a two-yard run by Bell. After the extra point conversion by Allen the score was 35-10 at the 5:11 mark in the third quarter.

Jeff Davis scored on an eight yard run to make the score 35-17 with 1:11 left in the third quarter.

The Bears followed with a 30-yard run by Jimarion Guyton. Following the extra point by Allen the score was 49-17 at the 11:04 mark in the fourth quarter.

Guyton closed the scoring on a 35-yard run making the final score, with the conversion by Allen, 56-17.
