Pierce Middle ousted by Long in conference tournament

LUDOWICI — Pierce County Middle School’s softball season came to an end here Monday in the Southeast Georgia Middle School Athletic Conference semifinals with a 9-1 loss to host Long County Middle School.

The Lady Blue Tide broke away from a 1-all tie in the bottom of the third inning scoring runs in each of their last four trips to the plate.

Long County grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning against Sophia White (3.2 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 K, 0 BB, 1 HBP), one of five pitchers used by the Lady Bears, on a sacrifice bunt two batters in.

PCMS evened the score at 1-apiece in the top of the second. Kabela Reddick reached on an error to start the inning, advanced to second on a passed ball and over to third on Kinsey Reddick’s (1-for-2) infield hit. Kabela Reddick raced home with the game-tying run on a wild pitch.

Back-to-back two-out base hits, the first a double, in the bottom of the third gave Long Middle the lead for good at 21.

Long Middle plated two runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and scored twice in the sixth to end the game via the “mercy rule.”

Sadie Warren (1-for-2) and Cadence Coldren (1-for-3) recorded the only other hits by Pierce Middle. Following White on the pitching rubber were Lakota Davis, Sadie Warren, London Sweet and Kaylin Sills.
