County to set millage rate

The county commission tentatively plans to set its millage rate at 9.429 mills during a called meeting October 14.

The five year tax history is published in today’s edition of The Times.

Commissioners did a comprehensive review of the proposed $15.06 million spending plan for 2025 during a twohour long budget work session held last Tuesday night.

The budget is about $334,268 higher than the current year’s budget.

The new spending includes money to build a new Otter Creek Fire Station and capital outlay purchases for new fire tankers and new road department equipment including a dump truck and excavator.

The budget also saw decreases in salaries for tax commissioner, clerk of court and magistrate judge, since all those offices will feature newly elected officers this year and the new officers will start at the base salary for their positions.

There was also a decline in the board of elections department, since only municipal elections will be held in 2025.

County Manager Raphel Maddox and county staff members Donna Golding and Elena Ryals will work on paring down the budget.

Commissioners came to a consensus agreement to keep the millage rate the same as last year.

Commissioners will approve the millage rate at the Oct. 14 called meeting.

The county commission will likely adopt the budget at a later date.
