Pierce County citizens are encouraged to vote

The general election is coming up Tuesday, Nov. 5 and the Pierce County Board of Elections and Registration has provided information about the upcoming vote.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, at the county’s two precincts at the Pierce County Gym in Blackshear and at Eagle Station in Patterson.

Early voting is scheduled Monday-Friday, October 15-November 1. Early voting will be from 8:30 a.m.5 p.m. at the Board of Elections office at 312 Nichols Street, Blackshear.

Absentee ballots can be requested by application from now until Friday, October 25. The first day absentee ballots can be mailed out will be Monday, October 7.

While there will be no local races on the ballot, Pierce County residents will choose their preference for president and will elect their U.S. Congressman from the first district. Incumbent Buddy Carter (R, Pooler, St. Simons Island) is being challenged by Bryan County businesswoman and Democrat Patti Hewitt.

Voters will also consider two constitutional amendments and a state wide referendum all related to tax policy.
